Lise (Gravel) Genova
Artist Statement
“Painting is food to my soul and a never ending discovery of joy and beauty”

Born in Quebec City, Lise studied at the Beaux-Arts, then moved to Toronto to work with Air Canada. During 36 years of flying, she never stopped painting, organizing and taking workshops with different prominent artists from Canada and U.S. She also communicates and teaches her love of creating to others through weekly classes. In 2008 Lise brought her creativity to the shores of PEI.

Acrylic is her favourite medium although she also loves w/c and oil. Lately, she is fascinated by texture, using multiple layers of paint and colors to bring out images from the background and captures the feel of the island, its folklore with imagery and colors.

Lise’s paintings have appeared in many juried shows in Toronto, getting awards and becoming a signature member of the Toronto Watercolour Society. Her works are found in private collections in Canada, U.S. and Europe. She has belonged to different artist associations in Toronto and is
now president of two groups here on PEI, the Summerside Art Club and past president of The Kensington Artist Co-op. She organized and participated in painting two murals for the City of Kensington portraying the first arrival of the trains in 1873 and villagers in the old city of Kensington. She also participated in organizing several shows for the two groups in Summerside and around. She has received an award from the city of Summerside for her participation in the arts.
